APDA (American Parliamentary Debate Association) is an intramural collegiate parliamentary debate association which standardizes and coordinates debate tournaments at various colleges and universities across the USA. More information can be found at the APDA website: http://www.apdaweb.org/

Tab, in APDA lingo, is the process of pairing teams off to create debate rounds. This process is often done by hand using a complicated system of cards, sorting, and rules. ATab simplifies the process by doing all the things that a computer does best -- storing and organizing data, tabulating scores and sorting based on complicated rulesets.

ATab is full-featured and includes automatic judge and room assignment, registration assistance, automatic and/or manual pairing of inrounds, multiple judge scratch support, and special-case round results (such as ironman, double win, etc.) Everything is easily printable, including top teams, speakers, and per-school reports. For those die-hard hand tab enthusiasts, tab cards and judge cards are easily accessed, printed and tweaked. Finally, there are a host of other useful views and features to make your life easier.

Future features include full outround support with multiple breaks and multiple simultaneous computer access to make ballot entry and collaboration easier.

The entire package is written in Python, using wxPython for the interface, to make cross-platform compatibility a snap. 32-bit Windows and POSIX versions are actively maintained; porting to other platforms (including Mac) should be easy.

Finally, unlike other existing tab programs which are only available under an extremely limited license (think hundreds of dollars for a single weekend of use!) ATab is, and always will be, available under the GNU GPL, freely redistributable, maintained and improved by the community.

ATab:

  • More efficient
  • More reliable
  • More feature-filled
  • And, always free

Why would you use any other?
